Clar.IA: AI Assistant for managing the societal impacts of AI

The International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of AI and Digital Technology (OBVIA) is a Quebec research center dedicated to studying the effects of artificial intelligence and digital technologies on society. Created in 2018, OBVIA brings together researchers and partners to examine the ethical, social and political issues of AI. Its mission is to promote the responsible development of these technologies by supporting initiatives focused on inclusion, human rights and collective well-being, while informing public decisions for sustainable uses.

The project

OBVIA wanted to develop an AI assistant that could help users navigate complex information and answer in-depth questions without having to explore hundreds of technical documents. To achieve this goal, FJNR was mandated to design a complete solution, including needs analysis, development of an advanced AI integrating access management features, and deployment of this solution on Firebase.

In short, OBVIA was looking for an AI solution to simplify access to complex information.

An advanced technological solution

Augmented document recovery

Clar.IA allows users to ask questions and receive answers directly from indexed documents, avoiding the need to read and understand hundreds of pages of complex reports. This feature is particularly useful for stakeholders who do not have the time or knowledge to wade through detailed research documents.

Access rights by invitation

The access rights system allows administrators to invite users simply by using their email address. Once invited, users receive a welcome email that tells them how to access the services. Rights can be revoked at any time.

Hidden onboarding form

The onboarding form for new users is subtly integrated into the conversation with the chatbot, allowing users to familiarize themselves with the assistant without interruption or break in the experience. This discreet onboarding process facilitates a gradual learning curve while maintaining a fluid and natural interaction with the tool.

The impact
