The “Jardin” created for Thèsez-vous allows students to track and visualize their work time, with a personal garden where each hour of work grows tomato plants. Thèsez-vous is a non-profit organization that fights against delays and abandonment in graduate studies, while reinventing academic practices.

The Project

FJNR collaborated with Thèsez-vous on a research project funded by the FRQ to develop a tool aimed at improving users’ work time management while integrating a fun and engaging experience.

A fun and engaging digital tool

Needs Analysis

We conducted in-depth analyses to understand user expectations, identifying key features to facilitate work time tracking.

An avatar-based design approach

Each user has a random totem animal (sheep, cow, pig, etc.) and various decorative elements, also random. This allows each person to instantly recognize their garden among hundreds of others, making the experience personal and engaging.

The playful side of tomatoes

Each garden includes tomato plots whose development depends on the work time completed (hours worked). The plots evolve from a single sprout to three fully grown tomato plants, adding a playful and dynamic aspect to gardening.

Community visualization

On the right side of the interface, a visual shows the total number of tomatoes harvested by the community, displayed as stacked crates. This allows users to visualize the collective impact of their efforts.

Analysis options are available, with graphs showing performance over time. These tools allow users to track their progress and better understand their contributions.
